The glorious history of the ice-lantern

      Harbin is the cradle of ice-snow art of china, ice lantern here

are renowned both at home and abroad. Harbin began to make and  

display them on a large scale in 1963 when China was suffering  

  3-year-old natural disaster. In order to enrich people's cultural

     life and life their spirit, the Gardening Apartment organized force,

   used simple tools such as basins,buckets and so on, to freeze more

   than one thousand ice lanterns and dozens of ice flowers under the

suggestion and encouragement of Ren zhongyi,the former chief of

    commettee of the city, Lu Qien, the major displayed at the festival

     of lanterns at Zhaolin park. Harbin ice lantern swept the whole city

 by storms, making a grand scene of crowded visitors. This is the

  first organized, well-led ice-lantern garden party of our country.

    After ice lantern garden party had been held 4 sessions, it had been

forced to pause because of the Culture Movement, and it didn't  

    gained the energy and vitality until 1979. From then on, ice lantern

  Garden has been holding every year. Ice-lantern Garden experienced

   from simple to complex, from small to large as the level of art and

   the technique of manufacture developed, whose carrier-Zhaolin Park  

became famous all round the city.
