The origin of the Ice-Lantern

     Ice lantern is an old folk art which is populared in the North China.

It is said that, long long ago, in the evenings of winter, people always

 saw couples of farmers and fishers feeding and fishing comfortably on the

   SongNen Plain, and their illuminating tools were the lantern which was made

  of ice. This is the original of the ice-lantern. The technics that make ice

 lantern is very simple at that time. The workers put the water in the buck

et, dig out a hole in the bucket middle of the model when the water turns

  into ice, then, put a kerosene lamp into it in order to illuminate. The icy

  cover keeps the nippy wind back, so the light won't put out in the darkness.

The ice-lantern becomes a indispensable helper in our ordinary life. Later

on, when the Spring Festival and the Festival of lanterns come, people     

decorate it, and turn it into a special artistic form for the tourists     

 to appreciate.
